Elvis Costello Leaves the Imperial Bedroom

Elvis Costello has just made a stark departure from the normalization-business-as-usual in the entertainment industry.   In a year where artists such as the Pixies, Metallica, Joan Armatrading, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, Beyonce, Elton John and Ozzy Osbourne, to name a few, have displayed little hesitation to take the stage in apartheid Israel, Elvis Costello has canceled his gig with a public statement:

“It is after considerable contemplation that I have lately arrived at the decision that I must withdraw from the two performances scheduled in Israel on the 30th of June and the 1st of July.

One lives in hope that music is more than mere noise, filling up idle time, whether intending to elate or lament…”

In an evolution of cultural boycott, 2010 began with Santana’s cancellation of his Tel Aviv concert due to “scheduling problems”.  Then Gil Scott-Heron quietly canceled his planned performance following continued disruptions at a UK concert.  Now, Elvis Costello has broken new ground in the cultural boycott stating it is “quite impossible to simply look the other way”.   Thank you Elvis Costello.

    So hypocrite!!!
Was this so called “apartheid” started somewhere in the past month?? Didn’t he knew this stuff earlier. For some reason Mr. Costello decided to book the show in Israel and than cancel it for these reasons. So obviously he tried to or attract attention for himself as a so called freedom fighter (yeah right…), or is just influenced by Arab propaganda. As someone else said, where was Mr. Costello’s boycott on USA and Britain when they invaded and killed inoscent people in Iraq?!
I suggest people to check things for themselves before they devour the media’s info which proved numerous times to be incorrect and popolistic!
All you people can keep sitting in your comfortable houses (which are built on decades of slavery and exploitation of 3rd world countries) and quote the magazines you read about human rights and try to calm your conscience regarding all the monstrosities your cloture is signed on.

LOL Funny, EC played Hillary’s birthday bash. As I recall she was rah-rah about the Iraq war…I guess thats ok though. He didnt refuse to play the US or UK over the Iraq debacle.

Does EC buy any Chinese products, and do any of YOU buy any? Well guess what kiddies, you’re just as guilty!

Incidentally, anyone recall the ugly things EC had to say about Ray Charles and James Brown? In vino veritas

Thank you for supporting the Palestinian call for BDS, Elvis Costello.

This was a huge mistake. In the end peace is necessary. This move ostracizes Israel and makes then feel like more of a pariah. Why are there calls to boyott Israel and not Sudan, Burma, or China, these countries really are horrible. Israel is not perfect, but putting it ahead of really brutal goverments, that is just wrong.
